Programs at PS 9
Each program has its own separate application process. Students applying for Kindergarten in any program must have a birth date 5 years before the academic year (born in 2004 for the 2009/10 school year beginning in September, 2009).
Pre-Kindergarten
PS 9 has a universal Pre-Kindergarten program with places for 36 four-year olds. Children attend either a 2.5 hour morning session from 8:40 -11:10 AM or afternoon session from 12:30 - 3:00 PM five days a week. Priority is given to children with siblings at PS 9, families residing in the PS 9 zone, and to children with special educational needs.
General Education - K-5; 1-2 classes per grade
The well-rounded curriculum of this enriched general education program offers Cluster Classes in chess, computers, and gym along with special music and art studies.
The Gifted and Talented Program - K-5; 1-2 classes per grade
The G&T Program offers an academically enriched and differentiated curriculum, which includes the use of more complex materials and in-depth learning. G&T students also participate in the specialized Cluster Classes.
PS 9 is one of several schools within District 3 with this program. All decisions regarding who is placed in the PS 9 G&T are made by the Department of Education. PS 9 has no part in the selection process.
